Club World Cup: Kim Pan-gon’s Side Bows Out After Narrow Loss to Dortmund
By Haziq Asyraf
Ulsan HD FC suffered their third consecutive defeat in the FIFA Club World Cup, losing 0-1 to German side Borussia Dortmund in their last Group F encounter at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. The defending K League 1 winners, led by Kim Pan-gon, were already eliminated after losing to Mamelodi Sundowns (1-0) and Fluminense FC (4-2).
Despite requiring a victory to be in contention, Dortmund entered the game having drawn 0-0 with Fluminense and defeated Sundowns 4-3. The breakthrough came in the 36th minute, when Jobe Bellingham set up Daniel Svensson for the game's lone goal.
Ulsan were statistically outplayed, with only three efforts on goal to Dortmund's 28. Their departure signals a dismal conclusion to their campaign under Kim's leadership.
